Problem

The graph shows the number of hours Stan worked on a school project.

An image is supposed to go here. You can help us out by creating one and editing it in. Thanks.

For how many hours in total did he work on the project?

$\text{ (A) }\ 6 \qquad\text{ (B) }\ 2 \qquad\text{ (C) }\ 8 \qquad\text{ (D) }\ 9 \qquad\text{ (E) }\ 10$

Solution

Using the bar chart, we can just find how many hours he worked on the project each day of the week, and add it all up.

On Monday, he worked for $2$ hours.

On Tuesday, he worked for $0$ hours.

On Wednesday, he worked for $3$ hours.

On Thursday, he worked for $1$ hour.

On Friday, he worked for $2$ hours.

Thus, in total, he worked for $2 + 0 + 3 + 1 + 2 = 2 + 3 + 1 + 2 = 5 + 1 + 2 = 6 + 2 = \boxed {\textbf {(C) } 8}$ hours.
