$\text{ (A) }\ \text{Athlete A} \qquad\text{ (B) }\ \text{Athlete B} \qquad\text{ (C) }\ \text{Athlete C} \qquad\text{ (D) }\ \text{Athlete D} \qquad\text{ (E) }\ \text{Athlete E}$

Solution

The person that won the race would be the person that took the least amount of time to run the marathon. We can look at the values in the bar graph/chart.

According to the bar graph, athlete A took around $4$ hours, athlete B took around $5$ hours, athlete C took less than $3$ hours but more than $2$ hours, athlete D took around $3$ hours, and athlete E took around the same time as athlete B.

Of these values, we can see that $\boxed{\textbf {(C) } \text{Athlete C}}$ was the athlete that won the race.
