The new coordinates are

$\text{ (A) }\ (1, 2) \qquad\text{ (B) }\ (-1, 2) \qquad\text{ (C) }\ (-1, -2) \qquad\text{ (D) }\ (1, -2) \qquad\text{ (E) }\ (1, -1)$

Flipping over the y-axis would result in the x coordinate being negated. However, the y coordinate would remain the same.

Thus, the new coordinates would be $\boxed {\textbf {(B) } (-1, 2)}$
